They sailed from Rotterdam at the mouth of the Rhine River in Holland to Philadelphia on a galley called Winter (often called the Winter Galley). Notes for PHILIP HARLESS:

In his book, Dr. Pritchard tells a story about the demise of Philip Harless, the 3rd son of Martin. At the age of 89, Philip was taking a turn of corn to a water mill in Racine (presumably Virginia) by horseback. About a half mile below the mill where the road along the Big Coal River is between high, rocky cliffs, some men were cutting a tree on the bluff above the roadbed. Philip was returning from the mill when the tree started coming down, and he was past where the men were cutting. When the timber cutters started to "Hollar" as the tree came down, Philip -- who was somewhat deaf -- became confused and turned his horse back into the path of the falling tree. The tree fell on horse and rider killing them both. The other day, Larry Harless mentioned in his family history that Henry Harless of Logan County, WV and grandson of our enigmatic Lorenzo Dow Harless also was killed by a falling tree in a timbering acident. What a weird coincidence that 2 people from the same family, albeit several generations apart, should meet with the same unfortunate end.

Notes for JACOB SEILOR: As posted to the Harless Genealogy Discussion List on the Internet:
Our ancestor JOHAN PHILIP HARLESS and his son-in-law Jacob SILER as remembered from childhood in the AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF DAVIE CROCKETT
The following is taken from the Autobiography, in which Davie recalls being hired out as a boy to Jacob Siler, and recounts a stop at Mr. Siler's father- in-law's house, whom Davie calls "Mr. Hartley." Davie writes:
An old Dutchman, by the name of Jacob Siler, who was moving from Knox county to Rockbridge, in the state of Virginia, in passing, made a stop at my father's house. He had a large stock of cattle, that he was carrying on with him; and I suppose made some proposition to my father to hire some one to assist him. Being hard run every way, and having no thought, as I believe, that I was cut out for a Congressman or the like, young as I was, and as little as I knew about travelling, or being from home, he hired me to the old Dutchman, to go four hundred miles on foot, with a perfect stranger that I never had seen until the evening before. I set out with a heavy heart, it is true, but I went ahead, until we arrived at the place, which was three miles from what is called the Natural Bridge, and made a stop at the house of a Mr. Hartley, who was father-in-law to Mr. Siler, who had hired me. My Dutch master was very kind to me, and gave me five or six dollars, being pleased, as he said, with my services. This, however, I think was bait for me, as he persuaded me to stay with him, and not return any more to my father. I had been taught so many lessons of obedience by my father that I at first supposed I was bound to obey this man, or at least I was afraid openly to disobey him; and I therefore staid with him, and tried to put on a look of perfect contentment until I got the family all to believe I was fully satisfied. I had been there about four or five weeks, when one day myself and two other boys were playing on the roadside, some distance from the house. There came along three wagons. One belonged to an old man by the name of Dunn, and the others to two of his sons. They had each of them a good team, and were all bound for Knoxville. They had been in the habit of stopping at my father's as they passed the road, and I knew them. I made myself known to the old gentleman, and informed him of my situation; I expressed a wish to get back to my father and mother, if they could fix any plan for me to do so. They told me that they would stay that night at a tavern seven miles from there, and that if I could get to them before day the next morning, they would take me home; and if I was pursued, they would protect me. This was a Sunday evening; I went back to the good old Dutchman's house, and as good fortune would have it, he and the family were out on a visit. I gathered my clothes, and what little money I had; and put them all together under the head of my bed. I went to bed early that night, but sleep was a stranger to me....

Leeper ran Phillip's store and took care of Phillip's house and his books. Ed lived in Phillip's house with Leeper all of his life. When Ed's wife, Rea, committed suicide, Leeper raised Ed's two daughters until they left home.

----Notes for CHARLEY CLEVELAND GREEN:
Went up to Montivello in the buggy, got Leeper, and brought her back to Two Egg. After their marriage and birth of J.C., Ralph and Margie, he got a job as a foreman on a farm south of Shreveport, LA. They moved the family to the farm where they lived in a house with the farmer's brother. One night, the farmer's brother, while drunk, caught the house on fire. Everything the family owned was destroyed. Charlie had fallen sick during this time, but never saw the doctor about it. When he was better, he took a job in Norphlet, Arkanasas working for Lyon Oil. There he was struck in the head by a large bolt that fell from the top of an oil derrick. He when was taken to the doctor for the head injury, it was discovered that he had cancer which had spread. The doctor told him that he should just take his family home and settle his affairs. Leeper took in washing and boarders, and the kids washed old bottles and sold them to the pharmacy to get enough money together to go back to Florida. They went back and the community donated a house, stove and two beds for them to start over. The church donated the money to bury Charlie when he died. Charlie's brother, Phillip, then took the widow Leeper and her children in and supported them for the rest of his life.
